Cairo: Renowned Egyptian actress Karima Mokhtar has died, aged 82, after a long battle with disease.
Egyptian Artists’ Union President Sameh Al-Sariti mourned the death of the death of the popular actress who starred in dozens of films, plays, TV dramas for more than half a century.
In a statement to the Middle East News Agency, he announced that the funeral would be held today after Asr Prayer at the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As in Cairo.
Born in Assiut, in Upper Egypt, on 16 January 1934, Mokhtar's career spanning more than five decades boasts a rich filmography.
Her artistic career started in the 1950s with the popular Egyptian children’s radio show 'Baba Sharou'.
She clinched her first role as a cinema actress in 1963 in the film 'Thaman Al-Horeya' (The Price of Freedom).
She then starred in a string of successful films like 'Zeinab', 'Al-Hafeed' (The Grandson), 'Amira Hobi Ana' (Amira My Love), 'Al-Shaytan Ya’ez' (The Devil Preaches) and 'Al-Farah' (The Wedding).
