TENNIS – THE Ministry of Interior tennis team won nine awards, highlighted by five titles, in the sixth Arab Veterans Tennis Tournament, held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
More than 56 men’s and women’s players representing 11 Arab countries took part in the multi-day event.
Major Reem Al Hashemi and Captain Ibrahim Sami headlined the Interior Ministry’s successes. Major Al Hashemi clinched the women’s singles title while Captain Sami won the men’s singles division.
Major Al Hashemi also secured the women’s doubles crown with Lieutenant Colonel Fatima Al Zubi, while Major Al Hashemi and Captain Sami also captured the mixed doubles title.
Major Al Hashemi won the Best Female Player award in the championship with her outstanding performance throughout the competition.
The Interior Ministry team also achieved other podium positions.
Lieutenant Colonel Fatima Al Zubi finished second in the women’s singles and second in the mixed doubles. Major Mohammed Janahi won third place in the men’s singles, while the duo of Major Janahi and Captain Sami finished third in the men’s doubles.
With those results, Interior Ministry permanent committee for tennis chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa extended his congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the outstanding achievement of the ministry’s team in the tournament, affirming that the continued successes of Bahraini sport reflect the comprehensive national vision and the support given to the sporting movement in the kingdom.
Shaikh Khalid also expressed congratulations and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and to SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, commending their efforts which aided in consolidating Bahrain’s position as an advanced sports destination with an active presence at various regional and international events.
Shaikh Khalid noted the role of Prime Minister’s Court Minister Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in supporting national competencies and Bahraini youth, and in backing initiatives aimed at developing future generations capable of continuing national achievements across various sectors, including sport, as well as Shaikh Isa’s support for tennis.
Shaikh Khalid also extended sincere congratulations to Minister of Interior General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, affirming that the honourable results were achieved from the continuous support in sports programmes and national cadres, as well as his commitment to provide the right environment for excellence, creativity, and achievements.
He emphasised that these results reflect the efforts of the Interior Ministry’s permanent committee for tennis to develop the sport and refine national talent through specialised preparation and training programmes aimed at improving players’ technical standards and enhancing their ability to compete and achieve results for Bahrain.
Shaikh Khalid said that this achievement is a new addition to the Interior Ministry’s sporting record and reflects the advanced level reached by Bahraini tennis at Arab level.
He affirmed that the Interior Ministry’s permanent committee for tennis will continue to implement its development plans and programmes aimed at preparing generations of players capable of competing and representing the kingdom at various sporting events.
Shaikh Khalid underlined that their achievements at the Arab Veterans Tennis Tournament is a motivation to continue working and building on these outstanding results, contributing to advancing Bahrain’s presence on the Arab and international tennis maps and consolidating its position as a leading country in supporting sport and achieving success.
