A total of 287 students will graduate from the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) during a ceremony at the Exhibition World Bahrain today.
The graduating class includes 171 students receiving Doctor of Medicine degrees and 116 earning advanced diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in various educational, technical and administrative specialisations.
The event will be held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa expressed pride in the university’s contribution to strengthening Bahrain’s healthcare sector, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of HRH Prince Salman. He also extended his gratitude to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for patronising the ceremony, noting that such support reflects a continued commitment to higher education and investment in Bahraini and Gulf talent.
AGU president Dr Saad Al Fahaid said the patronage of HRH Prince Salman ‘is a testament to the leadership’s support for the advancement of higher education and scientific excellence’.
“The university continues its academic mission of preparing highly qualified specialists and strengthening its role in supporting development across GCC countries,” Dr Al Fahaid said.
“We also take pride in graduating a new generation of professionals who will contribute to the healthcare, education and research sectors while helping meet the development needs of their respective countries.”
Meanwhile, AGU has announced the launch of its first-ever ‘Gulf Medical Camp – Medical Student Experience’, an educational and awareness programme organised by the university’s Centre for Consultancy and Training in collaboration with the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The initiative is aimed at science-stream high school students and is designed to provide participants with first-hand exposure to medical education and the daily life of medical students. It also offers an opportunity to explore various healthcare specialties and gain insight into modern teaching methods used in health sciences programmes.
The camp will take place from August 16 to 20 at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the University Hospital at Al Jawhara Centre. Sessions will run daily from 8am to 3pm and will be conducted in English through a combination of educational and practical activities that simulate the experience of studying medicine at AGU.
Since its establishment, the university has graduated 3,624 doctors and 2,475 holders of advanced diplomas, master’s degrees and doctorates. Its alumni have played a significant role in advancing healthcare, education, innovation, technology management, environmental sciences and life sciences across the region.
