Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa chaired the 300th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure.
The committee praised the efforts of the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry in accelerating the achievement of the targets of the afforestation plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035, in line with the objectives of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad.
It also reflects the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to fulfil Bahrain’s commitments to reach net-zero by 2060, in support of efforts to address climate change challenges and protect the environment.
The committee also expressed its appreciation to the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry for its effective co-ordination with the Health Ministry and relevant entities to intensify mosquito control campaigns across the kingdom, in order to ensure public safety and provide a sustainable healthy environment for the community.
The committee commended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Capital Trustees Board and Bahrain Kuwait Insurance Company (BKIC) regarding the renovation and maintenance of Seef Garden, to continue enhancing the quality of municipal services and developing public facilities in the Capital Governorate.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the importance of continuing to expand public-private partnerships and leveraging promising opportunities for co-operation to deliver the best services to the community to enhance the contributions of companies within the framework of their national and social responsibility.
The committee highlighted the launch and development by the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry of a number of digital government services, within the framework of the government’s ongoing efforts towards comprehensive digital transformation across all its services, to facilitate procedures and provide the best services to citizens.
They also congratulated Abdulnabi Abdulla Al Sabah on winning by acclamation the presidency of the Bahrain Society of Engineers, and extended its congratulations to the board members on their election for the new term (2026-2028). It also expressed its appreciation to the chairperson and members of the previous board, headed by Dr Raida Al Alawi, commending the society’s prominent role and its valuable contributions in supporting Bahraini engineers and developing their professional capabilities and skills.
The committee reviewed the availability of essential construction materials in the local market, and examined the measures taken to ensure the stability of the pace of work in urban and development projects in light of the current regional challenges affecting supply chains.
They also reviewed the joint field efforts between the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry and the Works Ministry to ensure high readiness and rapid, effective response to rainwater accumulations during the current season.
The committee further followed up on developments related to regulating and developing mechanisms for the optimal utilisation of treated water, and the steps aimed at enhancing its sustainability in support of water resources in the kingdom.
