Several individuals are set to face criminal trial for allegedly photographing and publishing images of sensitive locations across the country where photography is prohibited.
According to the Public Prosecution, the suspects – whose exact number was not disclosed – used social media platforms to disseminate images ‘containing secrets’ that could ‘harm civil order’.
“The prosecution received reports from the Cybercrimes Directorate regarding offending social media accounts in light of the attacks on Bahrain by Iran,” the statement said.
“These accounts had posted photographs of vital locations, including sites damaged during the aggression. Authorities identified the suspects following an investigation into the matter.”
The Public Prosecution added that the individuals have been remanded in custody in preparation for their referral to criminal trial.
