BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN’S Muharraq Club fell to their second straight defeat last night in the 2025-26 Fiba West Asia Super League (WASL) – the region’s premier clubs basketball tournament under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba).
The kingdom’s representatives battled back from 14 points down in the second half to get to within a basket in a narrow 87-89 loss to Shabab Al Ahli of the UAE.
Kerwin Roach Jr and Daniel Domonique Hamilton combined for 46 of Muharraq’s total output. Roach Jr top scored in the loss with 24 points, while Hamilton had 22. Mohammed Ameer chipped in with 17 points, while Nicholas Simon West scored 12 for Muharraq.
Dikembe Dixson paced the Emiratis with a game-high 30 points, while Deshawndre Washington added 23.
The result followed Muharraq’s loss to Kazma SC of Kuwait in their opening fixture of the Fiba WASL’s Gulf sub-zone.
The Bahrainis are in Group A of the Fiba WASL Gulf sub-zone’s preliminary round, which also includes Ittihad from Saudi Arabia. Group B features Sharjah SC from the UAE, Kuwait Club from Kuwait, Al Arabi from Qatar, and Al Ula SC from Saudi.
Muharraq are scheduled to return to action against Ittihad on November 10 in their first game at home.
They then host Kazma on December 15, before playing at home once again on January 12 against Shabab Al Ahli. They then lock horns with Ittihad in Saudi on January 19 in their concluding Group A fixture.
