HORSERACING – THE Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) has unveiled a transformative masterplan set to redefine the kingdom’s sports and leisure landscape, positioning Bahrain as a leading regional hub for equestrian excellence, luxury living, and premium recreation.
The ambitious multi-phase project, developed in consultation with Bareeq Al Retaj Real Estate Services, covers a massive plot of over 3 million square metres within the established equestrian district. The announcement was made during the Gateway Gulf 2025 investment forum.
The masterplan represents a major step in advancing Bahrain’s long-term vision for economic diversification through key sectors like tourism, sport, and real estate investment, leveraging the nation’s heritage in horseracing.
The new integrated destination combines sport, hospitality, retail, and sustainability, and is guided by the directives of the REHC High Committee chaired by Prime Minister’s Court Minister Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Yusuf Osama Buheji, Chief Executive of REHC, said, “This landmark project represents a new era for the Club and Bahrain’s equestrian community.
Guided by the directives of the REHC High Committee chaired by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the REHC masterplan reflects our ambition to create a world-class destination that integrates sport, nature, and lifestyle, while opening new opportunities for investment, job creation, and tourism. It builds on Bahrain’s proud history in horseracing and reimagines it for future generations.”
The comprehensive development plan for the REHC spans several key zones, integrating sport, leisure, and luxury living.
Central to the masterplan is a new 18-hole championship golf course, which will be complemented by a golf clubhouse and a luxury golf hotel and villas. The project also features a dedicated equestrian centre offering state-of-the-art training and event facilities, alongside high-end luxury equestrian villas.
Further enhancing the destination are a commercial and retail centre housing various shops, services, and hospitality spaces, a modern sports complex designed for active community engagement, and premium F&B outlets offering dining experiences overlooking the racecourse.
The masterplan places a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship, including plans for a solar farm at the North-Eastern Investment Site to supply clean energy to the complex. This supports Bahrain’s national goals for renewable energy and carbon reduction.
With several plots identified for private sector participation, the project aims to attract both local and international investors seeking high-quality projects in Bahrain’s growing sports and lifestyle economy.
The world-class design is expected to strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for sports tourism and luxury hospitality, contributing significantly to national development priorities.
