AQUATICS – UNDER the patronage and in the presence of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the World Aquatics Centre of Excellence Bahrain was inaugurated at University of Technology Bahrain (UTB).
In attendance were BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, World Aquatics president Husain Al Musallam, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, and a number of high-ranking officials, guests, and invitees.
The project is one of the most prominent joint-sports initiatives between World Aquatics and the BOC, in partnership with GFH Financial Group.
The centre aims to support and develop aquatic sports in the region, nurture young talent, and provide a world-class training environment according to the highest international standards.
Shaikh Khalid expressed his pride and honour in the opening of this centre, stressing that the project embodies Bahrain’s vision of consolidating its position as a regional centre of sports excellence.
“The opening of the World Aquatics Centre of Excellence Bahrain represents a significant step forward in the development of aquatic sports in the kingdom and the region, creating an ideal environment for athletes from around the world,” Shaikh Khalid said.
Shaikh Khalid added that this centre will be a platform for producing future champions in aquatic sports and is a cornerstone for sustainable cooperation between Bahrain and World Aquatics.
For his part, Al Musallam affirmed that the opening represents an important milestone in World Aquatics’ strategy to expand the base of aquatic sports internationally.
Shaikh Khalid toured the centre’s facilities, including the modern Olympic swimming pool, training and rehabilitation halls, athletes’ locker rooms, and lecture halls, praising the project’s high engineering and technical standards.
