A teaching assistant in the US has been arrested after plaguing the school with stink spray designed to mimic the smell of faeces.
Alexander Lewis, 32, faces charges of disturbing schools and malicious injury to property after allegedly using the spray on campus for weeks.
His actions have cost the South Carolina school nearly $55,000 (approximately BD20,700) in inspection and air conditioning repair costs. The mysterious odour caused significant disruptions, with staff and students reporting headaches, nausea, and dizziness.
Deputies said Lewis purchased the spray online and used it multiple times between Aug 25 and Sept 19.
‘My son has, his asthma has been triggered multiple times because of this and I had to take him to the doctor three times,’ a parent told Local 12 News.
Officials conducted inspections of the school's gas lines, propane systems, and air quality to identify the source of the odour. However, authorities now believe the odour was intentionally caused by Lewis.
Lewis appeared in court, where a judge set his total bond at just over $9,000.
