HANDBALL – AL Shabab eked out a hard-earned 32-30 victory over Al Dair in their opening match of the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
Shabab held a slim 18-15 lead at the half of the hotly contested affair, held at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam.
They joined Al Ettihad, Al Tadhamun, Al Ahli, and defending champions Al Najma as winners from the first week.
Ettihad beat Samaheej 34-26 while Tadhamun edged past Barbar 28-27.
Ahli beat Tubli 35-30 while Najma outclassed Bahrain Club 33-18 on opening night.
There are 11 teams challenging for this year’s title. Al Ettifaq were the lone side idle in week one.
Matches are to be played in a double round-robin, after which the top four clubs will advance to the Super League, which will eventually determine the season’s overall champions. The teams ranked fifth through eighth will qualify for the lower-tier President’s Cup.
All games are being played at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam.
