SWIMMING – BAHRAIN’S Amani Alobaidli concluded her participation in the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore yesterday with another strong performance at the World Aquatics Championships Arena, located at Singapore Sports Hub in the zone of Kallang.
Alobaidli was competing in the third of seven preliminary round heats in the women’s 50 metres backstroke, where she took an impressive third place amongst the race’s 10 participants.
The 19-year-old, who is the event’s national record holder, clocked a time of 30.67 seconds – narrowly missing out on the victory after finishing a mere 0.43 seconds behind heat winner Laurent Elisabeth Estrada Caraballo of Cuba.
Caraballo triumphed in 30.24s, while Abril Aunchayna of Uruguay was the runner-up in 30.43s.
From all the swimmers in the heats, Alobaidli was ranked 44th overall amongst 63 competitors.
Her participation in the 50m backstroke was her second race in Singapore, having earlier also swam in the women’s 100m backstroke.
The Paris 2024 Olympian currently holds the long-course national records for both events – a 29.64s mark for the 50m and a one minute 04.27 seconds time for the 100m.
Two of Bahrain’s other swimmers in Singapore are set to return to the pool today. Asma Le Falher will be racing in the women’s 100m freestyle, while Saudi Ghali, also a participant in the Paris 2024 Olympics, will be contesting the men’s 200m breaststroke.Bahrain’s Ahmed Suhail will then be racing in the men’s 1,500m freestyle on Saturday and in the men’s 400m medley on Sunday.
The kingdom’s national team at this year’s World Aquatics Championships is headed by Bahrain Aquatics official and Rio 2016 Olympian Farhan Saleh Farhan.
