THE administrative delegation of Bahrain’s mission to the third Asian Youth Games held its first meeting at the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) headquarters in Seef.
It was chaired by mission director and BOC executive director Ahmed Abdulghaffar, and attended by mission deputy head Abbas Bu Hassan. Abdulghaffar congratulated the attendees on their selection to the administrative delegation for the event, which will be hosted by the kingdom from October 22 to 31.
Abdulghaffar conveyed to them the greetings of BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji and stressed the importance of early action to ensure optimal preparation for the Bahrain mission’s participation.
He highlighted the need to provide all the various factors for Bahrain’s national teams to successfully participate in the Asian Youth Games’ 24 sports.
This year’s mega sporting event will be held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad.
This edition marks the first time Bahrain will be hosts, and it will welcome athletes representing 45 countries, who will be competing in a total of 253 events, including 124 for boys and 114 for girls.
The Asian Youth Games are designed for athletes aged 14 to 18 and will serve as qualifying events for the Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Dakar, Senegal in the summer of 2026.
The 24 sports approved by the Olympic Council of Asia and the local organising committee are athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, camel racing, cycling, equestrian events, E-sports, futsal, golf, handball, jiu-jitsu, judo, kabaddi, mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, teqball, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.
