SWIMMING – SUPREME Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa inspected yesterday the indoor swimming pool at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town, which is set to host the 29th GCC Swimming Championships this weekend.
Shaikh Khalid was accompanied by GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, and a number of other GSA officials.
Shaikh Khalid toured the facility and saw the maintenance work carried out by the GSA ahead of the regional meet. He was briefed on the development and modernisation completed, which included increasing the seating capacity for spectators, and adding air conditioning and general improvements, according to the highest standards.
The 29th GCC Swimming Championships will be taking place on Friday and Saturday.
Talented swimmers, both boys and girls aged 14 and above, will be representing the national teams of four of the six GCC nations, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and hosts Bahrain. The kingdom is hosting the prestigious meet for the first time in 13 years.
