SWIMMING – BAHRAIN is set to host the 29th edition of the GCC Swimming Championships this weekend.
Talented swimmers, both boys and girls aged 14 and above, are set to battle it out at the indoor pool of Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
They will be representing the swimming national teams of four of the six GCC nations, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and hosts Bahrain. The kingdom is hosting the prestigious meet for the first time in 13 years.
World Aquatics events will be held in the four swimming styles, including freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke. There will also be individual medleys and medley relays as part of the competition.
“We at Bahrain Aquatics are proud and fully prepared to host this prestigious competition,” Bahrain Aquatics secretary general Mohammed Al Noaimi told the GDN yesterday. “Our facilities, team, and community are ready to welcome athletes from across the region.
“We look forward to showcasing the spirit of Bahraini hospitality and delivering a world-class sporting experience for all participants.”
Action on both days of the championships will feature morning and evening programmes. The morning session will get underway at 9am and continue until a little after 11am. The afternoon contests will then be held from 5pm until around 7pm on Friday and until around 8pm on Saturday.
According to Al Noaimi, the kingdom’s roster of participants will be confirmed by tomorrow, when the event’s official technical meeting will also be held.
