BAHRAIN’S top international athletes were honoured yesterday for their sporting achievements in regional, continental and international competitions during the first half of 2025.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa received yesterday the kingdom’s sports stars, who have bagged an outstanding 59 medals between them, including 19 gold, in various competitions.
Shaikh Khalid underscored that the success of Bahraini sports across regional, Asian, and international arenas is attributed to the unwavering support of His Majesty King Hamad, the follow-up and interest of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the continued oversight of His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalid commended the national teams’ strong performance in the first half of the year, highlighting their achievements across individual, team, and combat sports.
He noted key milestones, including the table tennis team’s qualification for the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals 2026 and the volleyball team’s first-ever title in an Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) event, noting that such accomplishments reflect the strength of Bahraini sports and inspire further international success.
Shaikh Khalid expressed pride in the accomplishments achieved, commending the efforts of the sports federations. He emphasised that the GSA and the BOC remain committed to providing all necessary support to empower athletes and sustain their successes.
BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji expressed pride in the national achievements, attributing them to the support of the King and the follow-up of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He commended the unwavering support of Shaikh Khalid in empowering athletes and ensuring Team Bahrain’s strong presence on Arab, continental, and international levels.
Amongst the other national teams honoured for their outstanding achievements were the men’s and women’s athletics teams, who secured four gold medals at the Arab Cross Country Championship and one gold at the Asian Athletics Championship; and the fencing team that earned gold in the senior, junior, and youth categories at the Arab championship.
The darts team won three gold medals at the Arab Cup, while the snooker and billiards team claimed three golds at the West Asian Championships.
Additionally, the shooting team won gold at the Arab Shotgun and Air Rifle Championships, the judo and boxing teams each secured a gold medal at the Asian championships, the bodybuilding team earned two gold medals at the Asian championship, and the triathlon team took gold at the Asia Triathlon Duathlon Championships.
