Saudi Arabia strongly condemned an Iranian attack on Qatar, saying this ‘aggression cannot be justified under any circumstances’.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the aggression launched by Iran against the sisterly State of Qatar,” the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement.
“This aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness. It is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances,” it added.
The kingdom affirms its solidarity and full support for Qatar, and is deploying all its capabilities to support it in all its actions, it said.
Iran’s military said that it targeted the Al Udeid US military base in Qatar with a ‘devastating and powerful’ missile attack in response to US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Qatar condemned the Iranian attack and said it reserved the right to respond directly and in accordance with international law.
The UAE also denounced in the ‘strongest terms’ an attack by Iran against Al Udeid base in Qatar, the largest US military facility in the region.
The UAE condemns in the strongest terms (Iran’s) targeting of Al Udeid Air Base, considering it a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace,” Abu Dhabi’s foreign ministry said in a statement carried by official news agency Wam.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi issued a strong condemnation of the missile strike, describing the act as a serious violation of Qatari sovereignty and a threat to the collective security of the Gulf region.
In a statement, Albudaiwi emphasised that any attack on a GCC member state is an attack on the entire council, reiterating the bloc’s unified stance in standing with Qatar against any threat to its territorial integrity and national security.
He noted the troubling nature of the attack, particularly as it comes at a time when Qatar and other GCC countries have been actively advocating for de-escalation in the region, condemning Israeli strikes on Iranian territory and working toward a ceasefire through diplomatic efforts.
The Iranian missile strike, he said, runs counter to these peaceful initiatives and represents a dangerous escalation that undermines regional stability.
The GCC official urged the international community, and in particular the United Nations Security Council, to take a firm position against this aggression.
He called for decisive international action to deter further irresponsible behaviour, stressing the need to prioritise dialogue, uphold international law, and safeguard the security and stability of the Gulf region.
