PARA ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S Para athletics national team bagged seven medals, highlighted by one gold, to wrap up their campaign in the Tunisia stop of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025.
The kingdom’s squad added three silver and three bronze medals to their haul.
The Bahrainis thus finished 20th on the overall final medal tally, which was topped by the hosts with 24 medals, including 11 gold, eight silver, and five bronze. Nigeria were second with 18 medals, including 10 gold, five silver, and three bronze; and China were third with 28 medals, including nine gold, five silver, and 14 bronze.
The nationals were spearheaded by Rooba Alomari, who came away with the lone gold medal in the women’s shot put in the F55/56 category.
Alomari registered a best throw of 7.30 metres in the event. Her mark was a new Asian record and it came on her sixth and last attempt. She had five other throws in her outing, including efforts of 7.01m, 6.65m, 7.03m, 7.12m, and 6.85m.
Aside from her gold medal, Alomari also added a silver in the women’s discus throw F55 category as well as a bronze medal in the women’s javelin F55 category.
In the discus throw, Alomari claimed her place on the podium with an attempt of 24.31m, which was a new Asian record. Then, in the javelin, Alomari claimed her bronze with an effort of 17.46m, which was her third Asian record for the meeting.
Completing the medal winners were Nassar Alwaqza and Ahmed Nooh, who came away with two medals apiece.
Alwaqza secured a silver medal in men’s 200 metres (29.49 seconds) of the combined T51-T53-T54 category and a bronze in the men’s 800m (two minutes 13.89 seconds) for the combined T34-T53-T54 categories.
Nooh followed suit with a silver in the men’s 400m (1:10.78) T53 category and a bronze in the same men’s 200m (32.48s) race as Alwaqza in the combined T51-T5-T54 class.
The meeting, held at Rades Stadium in Tunis and sanctioned by World Para Athletics, featured the world’s best Para athletes. It was part of the grand prix series that holds events worldwide ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games in the US.
The kingdom’s delegation in the event was headed by Shaikh Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and it included administrator Noura Al Enezi, and coaches Ali Al Ghazal, Imad Murad, and Ahmed Mushaima.
