ATHLETICS – With the support of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the Ultra Trail Runners Bahrain team is participating in the Mozart 100 by UTMB, an international mountain running (ultra trail) event held annually in Salzburg, Austria.
The team consists of elite runners interested in mountain running and long-distance marathons. The core team members are Hamad Mattar, Ahmed Kamal, Mohammad Zaman, Jassim Al Bastaki, and Amer Ibrahim in the Mozart 100 race, and Riyadh Rafei in the Mozart Ultra. Other runners include Saeed Al Thabit, Adam Jamal and Hasanain Merhoun.
The Bahrain Ultra Trail Runners (BUTR) is made up of Bahraini mountain running athletes who have represented the kingdom in many international events, including the UTMB World Series.
The Mozart 100 is held in Salzburg, Austria. The race is known for its rugged mountainous terrain and more than 5,800 metres of vertical climb, making it a challenge even for professional runners.
The race is organised by the UTMB World Series team, which is behind some of the toughest and most prestigious mountain running races around the world, such as races in the Andes, the Alps, the Himalayas, and others.
This series serves as the official route to qualify for the UTMB Mont-Blanc in Chamonix, France.
More than 2,500 male and female runners from around the world are participating in the Mozart 100 this year.
