Abu Dhabi: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) announced the signing of agreements with Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) to explore opportunities to develop bauxite-related projects in Ghana.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), under the agreements, EGA and GIADEC will explore long-term partnerships for bauxite offtake and the development of rail and port infrastructure to expand production.
Bauxite is the raw material used to make aluminium. Ghana has more than 900 million tonnes of bauxite resources, distributed between one large and two smaller deposits, and currently produces around 1.5 million tonnes of bauxite annually.
