Colombia has announced its first-ever ambassador to Palestine.
President Gustavo Petro appointed Jorge Ivan Ospina, former mayor of Cali, as the ambassador to formalise Colombia's diplomatic presence in Palestine with an embassy in Ramallah.
In the announcement post, Ospina thanked the president and outlined his commitment to "denouncing the genocide that the Palestinian people are suffering today."
Colombia had severed diplomatic ties with Israel in May 2024.
