FOOTBALL – Sultan Mansoor was on target with only two minutes remaining in regular time to lift Bahrain Club to a 2-1 victory over Al Ahli last night in their week 12 match of the 2024-25 Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League.
Mansoor scored from close range to supply the winner for his side. Earlier in the match, played at Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad, Abdulla Al Hashash put Ahli ahead with a 13th minute goal from an acute angle on the left of the area. But Al Hashash also scored an own goal in the 40th minute, gifting Bahrain Club the equaliser with a header.
Two minutes after Mansoor’s winner, Ahli were awarded a penalty after Sayed Jawad Al Alawi appeared to be brought down in the box. But after a VAR review, the match referee rescinded his earlier call and no spot kick was given.
With the result, Bahrain Club improved to 15 points on the table following their fourth win in 12 matches. Ahli suffered their sixth loss in 11 games and they stayed on 13 points.
In other games last night, Sitra and A’ali played to a goalless draw at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, and bottom club East Riffa held Al Malkiya to a nil-nil stalemate at the National Stadium in Riffa.
