NEW YORK - Officials from Kuwait's Department of Legal Advice and Legislation took part in meetings of UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in New York.
The meetings, which took place on February 17-19, touched upon possible reforms in settlement of disputes between investors and nations, the Department said in a statement to KUNA late Wednesday.
The Department officials, attornies Nouf Al-Mashaan and Humoud Al-Dabbous, exchanged views with other delegates about operation of an advisory center tasked with settling international investment-related disputes, it said.
They also discussed a multi-party accord related to the settlement of disputes between investors and countries.
UNCITRAL is the core legal body of UN system in the field of international trade law.
Its mandate is to remove legal obstacles to international trade by progressively modernizing and harmonizing trade law. It prepares legal texts in a number of key areas such as international commercial dispute settlement, electronic commerce, insolvency, international payments, sale of goods, transport law, procurement and infrastructure development.
UNCITRAL also provides technical assistance to law reform activities, including assisting member states to review and assess their law reform needs and to draft the legislation required to implement UNCITRAL texts.
