HEARTY congratulations to the management of the GDN for launching the first digital multimedia newspaper in Bahrain and probably the region.
I wish them much success with this new venture keeping in step with the times to cater to changing tastes, a younger demographic of readers and also in reducing the carbon footprint related to printing, inks, delivery, etc. for a greener environment. The benefits are plenty and the decision is laudable so, hats off.
As for me, I am a bit of a fuddy-duddy and still prefer the print version. Love the feel of the newspaper, the unique experience of holding a newspaper in one hand and balancing a coffee mug in the other is inexplicable and oft times messy but, still worth it. An old habit difficult to rid.
My only concern is how do we solve the daily ‘Target’ or ‘Crossword’ puzzle on the digital version? What about back copies? Would a subscriber have access to go back to an earlier edition, if required, for reference?
Digital magazines / online newspapers have been around for a while now, yet the print versions have not gone out of style and have their own unique space and demand too. Whatever, I am sure GDN’s multimedia digital newspaper will find its place in the sun.
