A new project has been launched to study the impact of climate change on the distribution and abundance of pearl oysters and seaweed in Bahrain.
Organised by the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) in co-operation with the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (Danat), the research’s findings will help develop strategies to protect the kingdom’s marine environment and ensure the sustainability of the pearling industry, according to AGU’s Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Chair for Geographic Information Systems supervisor Dr Sabah Al Jenaid .
