The Bahraini national team has been crowned champions of the 26th Gulf Cup and the achievement brings to mind the value of hard work, determination, planning and working with the spirit of one team.
The achievement will be written in golden letters in the history of our country.
This was not just a sporting title, but rather a victory for dreams and ambitions that were achieved thanks to the efforts of players, technical and administrative staff.
Football in Bahrain has always been more than just a game. It is a passion that brings hearts together and unites fans under the banner of the homeland.
In this tournament, the Bahraini national team proved that it is capable of achieving the impossible through its honourable performance.
This victory does not only affect sports, but also enhances the kingdom’s position on the regional scene and supports the national spirit among all segments of the Bahraini people. It serves as a message to future generations that effort, faith and confidence in national capabilities yield promising results.
Frankly, I do not know how to describe my feelings while writing this article. Thank God, I was one of the lucky ones who got a ticket to watch the match at the last moment.
Thousands of Bahrainis travelled to Kuwait, enduring various hardships. For some, the trip took about 12 hours. The fans painted the most beautiful pictures of solidarity, loyalty, belonging, respect and sacrifice, and they set the most wonderful examples of love for this dear country.
To be fair, they all deserve an applause. I saw our people at Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium supporting and cheering on our team. Yes, these are the qualities and character of Bahrainis. Despite their modest capabilities, they chose to be in this gathering to support their players. They are the best soldiers for this beloved country.
Bahraini fans embodied the role of ‘player number 12’ with all merit, and presented a model to be emulated – in co-operation, respect, ethics and values. The fans were not forced to go to Kuwait. They knew the long hours they would spend on the road, back and forth, and yet they went out of their deepest love and passion for the soil of this dear land.
I have to praise the professionalism of the technical and administrative staff, as well as all the responsible soldiers in the Football Association who worked tirelessly to translate the aspirations of the leadership to achieve its desired goals.
I must praise the efforts of the tournament organising committee, the generous people of Kuwait, as well as the Omani fans who accepted the result with high sportsmanship, and even congratulated us.
His Majesty King Hamad’s reception of his players, one by one, in a grand celebration held at the National Stadium had a different flavour. It was a great surprise for the players and the Bahraini public, who appreciate this generous paternal gesture.
On this happy occasion, I can only extend my congratulations to the leadership and the loyal people of Bahrain for this wonderful accomplishment, wishing for continued progress and brilliance, and qualification for the World Cup.
Congratulations to Bahrain.
