A faulty smartphone charger may have caused a tragic house fire in Saudi Arabia that claimed the lives of seven members of the same family.
The incident took place in the governate of Al Ahsa, the authorities said.
A close family friend said the house fire started when a phone charger overheated and melted, setting fire to furniture. It is believed adults and children were overcome by toxic fumes attempting to tackle the blaze, while others died in their sleep.
The bodies of seven people were recovered from the scene with none suffering burn injuries.
One woman survived, believed to be the mother of the deceased. She is being treated in hospital and is in a ‘stable condition’.
