Bahrain is holding consultations with Saudi Arabia to build a solar power plant that will produce about two gigawatts, most of which will be supplied to Alba, chief executive Ali Al Baqali said in a statement to Asharq paper, without revealing the details of the discussions.
He added that the aluminium market faces many challenges related to geopolitical turmoil, whether in the Middle East region or the Russian-Ukrainian war, which negatively affects the supply chain and leads to price instability.
Alba, however, achieved good results in the first half of this year, according to Mr Al Baqali, who attributed it to increased production and higher sales of aluminium and value-added products, in addition to the positive impact of the “Hassalah” programme in reducing production costs.
He said that the establishment in Bahrain of businesses that use aluminium, such as the automotive-related industries and food cans, would benefit the company in terms of directing more of its production to the local market.
