HOSERACING – BAHRAIN’S high standing in international horseracing was highlighted yesterday with three world-class races sponsored by the kingdom, held as part of the July Festival at Newmarket Racecourse in the UK.
Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust chairman, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman and Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa attended yesterday’s races.
Shaikh Isa affirmed that the global recognition Bahrain has gained through participating in, and organising, wide-ranging horseracing events is testament to the competitive spirit of the kingdom’s citizens and their ambition to achieve success in this field.
Shaikh Isa noted Bahrain’s commitment to participate annually in the July Festival, adding that it is an extension of the close relations and strategic partnership with the UK, particularly in shared interests in developing the horseracing sector.
Shaikh Isa highlighted the kingdom’s far-reaching efforts in investing in these major global events, which reinforces its position as a major global player across various sectors. He commended the role of Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB) and the ambitious initiatives it has implemented in this regard.
Shaikh Isa presented the prizes to the connections of the winning horses in the Bahrain-sponsored races, and congratulated everyone on their achievements.
Shaikh Isa awarded the Group Three Bahrain Trophy Stakes to Godolphin representative Hamdan bin Sultan Al Sabousi, owner of the winning horse Ancient Wisdom, which is trained by Charlie Appleby and was ridden yesterday by William Buick.
