CYCLING – Johan Price-Pejtersen, Dusan Rajovic and Matej Mohoric yesterday led six Team Bahrain Victorious riders who came away with medals in their respective individual time trial (ITT) national championships, held all over the world.
Price-Pejtersen, Rajovic and Mohoric all bagged gold medals, with Price-Pejtersen taking first place in Denmark, Rajovic winning in Serbia, and Mohoric clinching the title in Slovenia, where he led Bahrain Victorious teammate Matevz Govekar onto the podium.
The three golds highlighted a fantastic six-medal haul for the world-class cyclists in the series of high-level road competitions.
Adding to their winnings were Kamil Gradek and Yukiya Arashiro. Gradek came away with a silver medal from the Polish national ITT event, while Arashiro took home a bronze in Japan.
Price-Pejtersen struck gold in Denmark with a fine showing in his 41.3-kilometre ride. He completed the course in 47 minutes and seven seconds, narrowly beating out countryman Mattias Skjelmose by just two seconds at the finish.
Rajovic emerged triumphant in the Serbian championship after completing his 29.6km event in 35:21. He was more than 25 seconds ahead of his closest challenger.
In Slovenia, Mohoric claimed his victory after clocking 35:08 at the end of the 30.1km ITT distance. He was 1:07 quicker than Govekar, who made it two Bahrain Victorious members on the winners’ podium.
Gradek was the silver-medallist in Poland after finishing a mere 19s behind Filip Maciejuk, who had a time of 51:20 for first place in their 44.7km ITT.
In Japan, Arashiro captured his bronze medal 1:16 from victor Sohei Kaneko, who posted a top mark of 46:53 across the 30km course. Taishi Miyazaki was classified just ahead of Arashiro for silver.
