CYCLING – Bahraini cyclists Ahmed Madan and Ahmed Naser will compete today in the elite men’s individual road race at the 43rd Asian Road Cycling Championships, currently taking place in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The event is scheduled to get underway at 8am, Bahrain time, and it will cover a distance of 151 kilometres. The awards ceremony will follow the action, expected to take place at around 1pm.
It will be the second ride of the meeting for Madan, who earlier got on his bike for the elite men’s individual time trial (ITT), where he finished 18th. He completed the event’s 40km distance in one hour and 13.574 seconds.
Bahrain Cycling Academy director of sport Axel Costa commented after the ITT: “This is not the normal performance of Madan, looking at previous events. We will analyse what happened and take action to solve it.
“We now have the road race, which will be a great opportunity for Naser and Madan.”
The meet in Almaty also features action in the 30th Asian Junior Road Cycling Championships and the 12th Asian Para-cycling Road Championships.
More than 400 riders are competing in the events, flying the flags of Bahrain, hosts Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand , Turkmenistan, the UAE, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
