Labour Day in Tubli served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and compassion within the community, as WeCare Bahrain spearheaded a heartfelt initiative to support labourers amidst challenging weather conditions.
Volunteering her time, Anjali Pandy, a key figure within the unregistered non-profit social organisation, said efforts were aimed at alleviating the burdens faced by hard-working labourers, many of whom have persevered through months of financial strain due to delayed wages.
The labour campaign, held in an area where all labourers reside within a camp, unfolded as a testament to the solidarity and generosity of the Bahraini community.
Despite the rain, volunteers traversed through the camp, distributing a range of essential items, including warm meals, summer caps, sunglasses, water bottles and other necessities, bringing moments of respite and comfort to those in need.
The significance of these donations cannot be overstated, especially considering the dire circumstances faced by the labourers, who often endure challenging working conditions without adequate support.
“It was a beautiful experience in the rain with the labourers. They were so happy … they truly deserve it!” said Ms Pandy, reflecting on the labour campaign in the rain.
Central to the success of the initiative was the invaluable support from various contributors. A special acknowledgment is owed to the anonymous Bahraini family sponsor whose generous donation of more than 200 warm meals and essential items provided a lifeline to the labourers. Additionally, Square Medical Centre’s commitment to set up a medical camp and offer free medical vouchers underscored the collective effort to address both the immediate needs and long-term well-being within the community.
At the heart of WeCare Bahrain’s mission lies a steadfast dedication to advocate for the dignity and welfare of all individuals, irrespective of their socio-economic background. With a robust team of more than 100 camp volunteers and 12 executive members from a variety of different backgrounds, the organisation remains resolute in its commitment to promoting inclusivity and compassion.
Through initiatives like the Labour Day campaign, the organisation endeavours to raise awareness about the challenges faced by labourers and provide tangible support to enhance their quality of life.
The success of the initiative was further amplified by its strategic efforts to cascade information through WhatsApp broadcasts and their Instagram page @wecarebh. These platforms evidently played a crucial role in rallying support and spreading awareness about the campaign, showcasing the power of social media in mobilising community engagement.
