BASKETBALL – Al Ahli have set up title clash with Manama after defeating Muharraq 101-94 in the second game of the Khalifa Bin Salman Cup semi-final series at the Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town last night.
Al Ahli had won the opening game of the semi-final series 111-100 last Friday.
It was a remarkable performance last night by Al Ahli, who bounced back from a six-point deficit at half-time to seal victory by seven points.
Al Ahli got off to a positive start taking the first quarter 25-22 but Muharraq roared back from the early setback to outscore Al Ahli 22-13 in the second quarter. Muharraq led 44-38 at half-time, raising hopes of victory that would keep the best-of-thee semi-final series alive.
However, Al Ahli dented Muharraq’s hopes by reducing the margin by three points in the third quarter (30-27) and turned it around in the final session outscoring their opponents 33-23.
James Ennis III led Al Ahli with a game-high 30 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Arnett Moultrie, who was the top scorer in the first semi-final game with 30 points, scored 22 points last night with 11 rebounds and one assist while Hesham Sarhan contributed 17 points and Ahmed Aldurazi added 14.
Tyler Wilkerson was the top scorer for Muharraq with 23 points, seven rebounds and two assists while Ricky Ledo scored 22 points with 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Manama earlier defeated Al Hala 2-0 in the semi-finals to book their spot in the final.
In the first game, played on March 28, Manama secured an 84-71 victory with Ahmed Najaf leading the winners with 13 points. The second game, played last Wednesday, saw Ahli cruising to a 97-52 win as Sir’Dominic Pointer paced with winners with 23 points.
