Bahrain’s e-passport has won 10 gold and silver awards at London Design Awards.
The electronic passport was part of the support provided by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for implementing Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) initiatives launched by the Cabinet as part of the Economic Recovery Plan.
It was launched by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa in March 2023.
The e-passport won three gold and seven silver awards at the London Design Awards, which is an international competition that recognises designs that are truly exceptional in the visualisation of creative influence.
This year, 3,000 participants from 45 countries competed for the titles to encourage creativity and innovation by covering various specialities, including architecture, interior design, product design, graphic design and digital design.
The passport showcases Bahrain’s distinctive Arab characteristics, embodied in the image of an Arabian horse and a falcon. It is distinguished by its style, which tells stories from the history of Bahrain, as it is a centre for the pearl trade. It also displays recent achievements and the future vision of the kingdom.
NPRA Under-Secretary Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa praised the instructions and support of the Interior Minister and Ministerial Committee for Information and Communications Technology chairman for the e-passport to feature modern designs with high-security specifications. He said the e-passport was part of the Interior Ministry’s digital transformation.
He valued the role of the team that completed the national project within a remarkable time of nine months.
“It is one of the best passports in the world in terms of artistic beauty and unique security features, providing exceptional facilities for citizens travelling around the world,” he said.
