THE Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Bahrain held its first Equal Opportunities Executive Committee meeting tasked with consolidating the principle of equal opportunity and ensuring the promotion of diversity and inclusion practices among staff.
The meeting was led by human resources head Gary Brady and human resources partner for learning and development Fatema Frutan.
It was disclosed that about 64 per cent of the university’s full-time staff is female, in line with the UN Fifth Sustainable Development Goal – ‘Achieving Gender Equality’.
Meanwhile, 48pc of managerial positions at the university are also held by females.
Over the past three years, 43 female members of staff have participated in leadership programmes, with an additional 37 academics obtaining a certification in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
As part of its equal opportunities framework, the university will engage with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) to implement more initiatives and programmes to meet institutional and personal goals.
“We are privileged to have a pool of female talent, and we are committed to empowering them to reach their full potential,” said managing director Stephen Harrison-Mirfield. “This committee is another step forward and an opportunity to enhance the university’s professional development plan further.”
