Hundreds of amateur and professional photographers have been busy focusing their cameras in recent weeks on a variety of subjects in a bid to put their talents to the test in the GDN’s popular annual photography competition … resulting in four fabulous contenders clinching the coveted prizes.
The much-anticipated ‘Bahrain Today’ contest gave enthusiasts a chance to compete in a variety of categories highlighting members of the public, places and nature’s glory.
The judges had a tough time studying all the entries and after much deliberation came up with these worthy winners.
- Leslee Jayachandran (People of Bahrain)
- Jayaraj Sivadasan (Landscape and Seascapes)
- Mohammed Azeem Waheed (Architecture and Buildings)
- Jaymes Mugo (Flora and Fauna)
Their entries wowed the panel of Al Hilal and GDN Media executives, chaired by group creative director André Bigg, for their technical competence, subject matter and creative composure.
“The winning images were chosen from almost a thousand submissions, many of which were outstanding,” said Mr Bigg. “The judges felt that the winning photographs combined technical excellence with creative empathy with each of the winners capturing the essence and spirit of their particular category.
“The competition celebrates the very best of Bahrain as seen through the eyes of the people who call the kingdom their home.”

Mr Bigg added that the competition has grown over the past six years in both the quantity of submissions as well as the quality of talent displayed.
Al Hilal Group’s managing director Ronnie Middleton, who was also on the judging panel, could not agree more.
“The quality of the entries to this year’s GDN photography competition have been exceptional and this has made it very difficult to choose a winner in each of the categories,” said Mr Middleton. “We have been delighted with the level of participation which has exceeded previous years and our sponsor’s support.
“Our congratulations not only to the winners but to the hundreds of photographers who have submitted some of the most stunning images of our kingdom.”
Dragon City Bahrain was particularly thrilled to play a key role in the competition’s success.

“It was a pleasure contributing to the success of the contest while supporting budding photographers in the kingdom. We have been incredibly impressed with the professionalism of the entries that managed to capture, through artistic touches, the unique charm of life on our island.
“Congratulations to the well-deserved prize winners, who are welcome to a most rewarding shopping experience at Dragon City!”
The prize-winning photographers will be honoured tomorrow morning at the Al Hilal Group headquarters in Hoora where their prizes will be presented at a reception.
