A RETIREE allegedly bit a policewoman on the shoulder and scratched her colleague after she was detained on suspicion of a crime, a court heard.
The 36-year-old Bahraini woman is standing trial at the High Criminal Court on charges of allegedly assaulting two female officers, disrespecting them and publicly insulting their honour.
She also allegedly damaged property belonging to the Interior Ministry after starting a physical altercation with the officers inside a police bus.
The incident reportedly took place in August, when the defendant from Bani Jamra was arrested on suspicion of a crime that was not specified in court documents.
“I was assigned to escort the defendant to the Public Prosecution where she was going to be interviewed about illegal actions she was accused of committing,” the policewoman claimed in a testimony.
“My colleague and I were in the bus with the defendant when she began to curse and spit at us.
“She then bit my right shoulder, then hit, kicked and scratched my colleague,” the 31-year-old added.
The other policewoman also testified against the defendant, telling prosecutors that she damaged parts of the interior of the bus belonging to the Interior Ministry.
Attached with the court documents was a medical report about the 39-year-old policewoman, indicating a scratch on her left hand, and a bruise on her right thigh. Neither officer had long-term injuries, and were able to heal quickly.
A verdict will be issued in the case on November 27.
