A Sydney court has handed down a two-year jail sentence to an Australian police officer after he pointed his gun at a colleague who threatened to give away spoilers for the Tom Cruise film Top Gun: Maverick. The incident took place earlier this year in Sydney.
New South Wales Police's Constable Dominic Francis Gaynor was handed down a two-year Community Corrections Order sentence and will have to serve 100 hours of community service.
According to court documents, the incident took place at the Day Street Police Station in Sydney. Gaynor reportedly warned his colleague Probationary Constable Morgan Royston not to give away any spoilers for the film.
Royston, 26, had reportedly watched the blockbuster film the night before and told Gaynor that he'd spoil it for him.
Gaynor then laughed and said "I'll shoot you" before pulling out his Glock service weapon from his holster and aiming at Royston.
Gaynor was also reportedly laughing throughout this whole incident.
During a court appearance, Gaynor pleaded guilty to carrying a firearm with disregard for Royston's safety.
Royston, who once called the police station his "home base", has since left the force entirely.
