Egyptian authorities announced the execution of Mohamed Adel, the man who brutally killed fellow university student Nayera Ashraf in broad daylight in 2022.
The case made international news after videos of the murder were widely shared on social media and caused public outrage.
Adel was sentenced to death after he pleaded guilty to the charge on June 29, 2022.
The Mansoura criminal court had earlier called for the live broadcast of the execution of Adel, claiming that the airing of the execution would help deter such crimes in the future, especially following the spate of violent crimes against women that Egypt has suffered recently.
