A 20-year-old woman was brutally burned alive in Pakistan's Punjab province in a case of alleged honour killing.
The incident took place in Jhang district's Garh Maharaja, about 200 kilometres from Lahore, on Friday.
Rajab Ali and his sons, Jabbar and Aamir, as well as some other family members reportedly tortured his daughter before setting her on fire at their home on May 26, according to investigation officer Muhammad Azam.
According to the policeman, the woman desired to marry a man of her choice. He claimed that "a day before, she had gone out and reportedly spent some time with him before returning."
Her father, two brothers, and some women from their family bound her with a rope when she got back and set her on fire.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she told the police what her family did to her before she succumbed to her burns.
Police have detained the victim's father, two brothers, and sister. The suspects are being investigated for murder.
According to the officer, the defendants who were caught showed no remorse for what they did, saying that the girl had dishonoured the family and deserved this punishment.
