A school principal in West Virginia came face-to-face with a bear when he happened to unlatch a dumpster outside Zela Elementary School on Monday morning. As soon as he removed the latch, a black bear leapt out and both the principal and the bear scurried away from each other. The incident was captured on CCTV and the footage was posted on Facebook by the Nicholas Country Board of Education.
The bar block that Mr March was trying to remove is designed to keep away bears from breaking in to eat food scraps. In the CCTV footage- captioned, "Who says principals don't deserve hazard pay?"- Mr Marsh can be seen scooting away from the bear as it jumps out of the bin. Luckily, the animal ran in the opposite direction.
According to Mr Marsh, the bear must have been trying to search for food and managed to push itself past the latch to get into the bin, and found itself trapped when the lid closed behind it.
The video has gained dozens of humourous comments on social media. A comment read, "They scared each other; the bear ran faster than him."
Another user remarked, "Aww poor guy.. I'm sure that man needs a new pair of drawers immediately."
"Can the principal bear the shock?" said a third comment.
