BAHRAIN Judo Federation Academy won first place with a total of six medals in the National Day Judo Championship, organised by the Bahrain Judo Federation, at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association, under the patronage of General Sports Authority vice president and Bahrain Combat Games Council chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
The tournament witnessed wide participation from judo clubs and training centres in the kingdom, the GCC and Arab countries.
The academy’s medal haul included two gold, three silver and a bronze, while Kuwait’s Al Qadisiya Club team placed second also with a total of six medals, including two golds, and Al Arab Club, also from Kuwait took third place with a total of three medals with one gold and two bronze.
In the Under-60kg category, Arab player Mahdi Hussein Safar won the gold with Bahrain Judo Federation Academy player Abdul Rahman Khalid taking silver and UFC Club’s Barron the bronze medal.
Al Qadisiya’s Ahmed Al Enezi claimed the gold in the 66kg category, with Al Arabi’s Hamad Al Shaya taking the silver and Qassim Ibrahim, also of Al Arabi, getting the bronze.
Bahrain Judo Federation Academy’s players Beslan Plimjtov clinched the gold in the 81kg category and Madan Ali in the Under-90kg.
Al Qadisiya’s Shihab Mohammed won the silver medal in the 81kg category, while Al Arabi’s Abdullatif Mohammed took the bronze.
In the U-90kg, UFC player Abdulaziz Al Khalidi bagged the silver medal and Bahrain Kombat Club’s Mohammed Habil won the bronze.
In the above 90kg, Al Arabi’s Hisham Mohammed claimed the gold, with Bahrain Judo Federation Academy’s Fayez Adel taking silver and teammate Fahad Al Arifi the bronze medal.
Shaikh Salman, Bahrain Judo Federation president Dr Faisal Khalid Kanoo, invitees, representatives of participating clubs and centres, including followers of judo attended the event.
