Manama: Bahrain’s Health Matters will be designating a month-long campaign to create awareness about Prostate Cancer.
“Prostate cancer is a disease of rising significance worldwide. It is the second-most diagnosed malignancy and the fifth-most common cause of cancer-related mortality in men. Health Matters together with Bahrain Cancer Society will be raising awareness about Prostrate Cancer for the month of November.” says Jubran Abdulrahman, Managing Director of Hilal Conferences and Exhibitions (HCE).
Bahrain has one of the highest rates of prostate cancer per capita in the Middle East, when compared to neighboring countries. This was the conclusion of a seminal study by RCSI Bahrain in 2021.
Bahrainhealthmatters.com will be carrying informative articles, videos and technical papers relating to the disease. The culmination of the awareness campaign will be a free to attend prostate cancer awareness briefing on the 29th of November at the Wyndham Grand Manama Hotel. The session will focus on prostate cancer risk factors, symptoms, screening and debunking the stigma associated with it.
“Men and their family circles can have a knowledge gap when it comes to understanding prostate cancer. The awareness campaign will seek to engage the taboos around prostate cancer with an understanding of the cultural sensitivities. The speakers will emphasise the importance of early screening and detection for treating prostate cancer.” Adds Ahmed Suleiman, event director.
“Issues around cancer are never easy. Society’s admiration and gratitude for the work of healthcare professionals and organisations can have no limits. As much as this month is about raising awareness about Prostate Cancer it should also be about acknowledging the hard work and dedication of these healthcare professionals in providing the care and the support to all cancer sufferers.” adds Abdulrahman.
The prostate cancer awareness is held in partnership with Bahrain Cancer Society and Healthcapita Bahrain with the support of its partners Gulf Daily News and Wyndham Grand Manama.
