HANDBALL – BAHRAIN Handball Federation (BHF) president Ali Ishaqi has officially submitted his candidacy for vice-president of the International Handball Federation (IHF).
This was announced yesterday by the BHF, noting that the submission came before the closing of nominations for the IHF general assembly elections, which will be held in Egypt this December.
Ishaqi’s nomination comes with the support of the kingdom’s sports leadership, represented by His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and that of SCYS deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Ishaqi’s candidacy reflects the desire of the Asian continent and the Arab world to have representation in this high-ranking position within the IHF. This was demonstrated through consultations held with other concerned countries over the past few months, during which there was a broad consensus to support Ishaqi in the upcoming elections.
Ishaqi has extensive experience in handball, having started as a local player and represented national teams at all age-levels. He has also had a prominent administrative role at the club level, which have led to his four terms as BHF president while also serving as Asian Handball Federation vice-president since 2017.
