FOOTBALL – FIFA World Cup winner David Trezeguet of France was announced yesterday as the latest addition to the star-studded cast of players who will be participating in the ‘Unity Kickoff – Play for a Cause’ charity football match, taking place next Friday at the National Stadium in Riffa.
Trezeguet has replaced Patrick Kluivert amongst the match participants.
He joins a long list of football legends for the exhibition affair, with the others including John Terry and Roberto Carlos, who will be the captains of the two teams, along with Yaya Touré, Marco Materazzi, Dimitar Berbatov, Luis Nani, John Obi Mikel, Clarence Seedorf, Julio Cesar, Michael Owen, and Ali Al Habsi.
On the sidelines, former English Premier League manager Harry Redknapp and Bahrain national team head coach Dragan Talajic will be in charge of the squads.
The game is set to be held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
It is being organised by Dallah Promotions, in collaboration with the Bahrain Football Association, the General Sports Authority, and the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF).
All proceeds raised from the match will be donated to the RHF to support initiatives aimed at improving education, alleviating poverty, and providing aid to orphans and underprivileged communities in Palestine, war-torn regions, and beyond.
Gates at the National Stadium are scheduled to open at 5pm on match day. Kick-off is set for 7.30pm.
