Riyadh - The Saudi Falconry Club brought the King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival 2024 to a close after organizing the event from December 3 to 19 at the club's headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh.
The festival featured a prize pool exceeding SAR 36 million, marking the largest in the history of the competition prizes associated with the festival.
A total of 1,032 falconers from nine countries—Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Syria, Italy, and Ireland—participated in the festival, including 160 international falconers.
The participants brought 3,322 falcons to the festival, with 49 young falconers also taking part in the event.
The festival culminated with the staging of the two rounds of the King's Sword, the most formidable and lucrative segments of the Melwah competition, with prizes totaling around SAR 1.85 million, equating to SAR 925,000 for each round.
Saudi Falcons Club chief executive Talal Al-Shumaisi expressed gratitude for the attention given to the falconry heritage by the Kingdom's leadership, as exemplified in the vision and directives of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who is also the club's general supervisor.
Al-Shumaisi also praised the ongoing support from Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, who is the club’s chairman of the board of directors. He commended the unwavering commitment from His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and the minister of interior to elevating this cherished heritage that resonates with all the people of Saudi Arabia.
