MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport secured a second-row grid position yesterday for the start of this year’s Gulf 12 Hours of Bahrain, set to take place today at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The 2 Seas crew of Jules Gounon, Stephen Grove, and Brenton Grove secured fourth in the starting order in their #4 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo contender, competing in the race’s GT3 Pro class.
The event’s two-time winners had a combined average lap time of one minute 52.230 seconds in yesterday’s qualifying, which was held over four sessions.
They were also second amongst GT3 Pro teams, behind only the #16 Porsche 911 GT3R (992) of Proton Huber Competition, who will be starting from third.
Herberth Motorsport took overall pole with a best lap of 1:52.896 in their #7 Porsche 911 GT3R (992), which was 0.334s quicker than 2 Seas. Kessel Racing’s #11 Ferrari 296 GT3 is the other car in the front row.
Today’s race will be held in two parts – the first is scheduled to flag off at 8am and end at 4pm, followed by the second from 6pm to 10pm. Both times are Bahrain.
2 Seas are one of 25 cars from 19 teams looking to take the chequered flag in the highly anticipated event, with the field of contenders featuring Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, and Mercedes-AMG supercars.
2 Seas are co-owned by Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
