The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), in cooperation with the Bahrain Football Association (BFA), announced yesterday a competition for fans for the senior men’s football national team’s participation in the 26th Gulf Cup.
The region’s biggest and most-anticipated football competition is scheduled to be held from December 21 to January 3 in Kuwait City, and Bahrain are one of eight teams vying for the coveted crown in the prestigious tournament.
BOC executive director Ahmed Abdulghaffar said that the contest comes within the framework of the BOC’s keenness to organise various initiatives that support the sport movement.
Abdulghaffar added that the BOC and BFA will hand out cash prizes to those who predict the results of Bahrain’s matches in the tournament. All conditions of the competition will be announced in due course as the competition approaches.
Bahrain are in Group B for the 26th Gulf Cup’s preliminary round alongside Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. Group A is composed of hosts Kuwait, Oman, the UAE, and Qatar.
The Bahrainis open their campaign in the preliminary round against the Saudis on December 22, and then face Iraq in a Christmas Day game on December 25. They complete their group schedule against Yemen on December 28.
All three matches are set to take place at Kuwait City’s Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium.
Bahrain have won the Gulf Cup crown just once in its past editions – back in 2019 when they defeated Saudi in the final. Portuguese coach Helio Sousa guided the Bahrainis to that historic title.
