FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN will learn of their preliminary round group in the 26th edition of the Gulf Cup today when the tournament’s official draw takes place.
The tournament is set to be hosted by Kuwait from December 21 to January 3 next year, featuring eight national teams from across the region.
The draw ceremony is set for tonight at Waldorf Astoria Kuwait, starting at 7pm, Bahrain time. It will be conducted by officials from the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF).
Bahrain Football Association (BFA) president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and BFA vice-president Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa will be representing Bahrain in the draw.
The event’s participating senior men’s squads include Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, defending champions Iraq, and hosts Kuwait. They will be divided into two groups for the opening stage.
The top two sides in each pool at the end of a single round-robin will move on to the semi-finals. Bahrain were champions of the Gulf Cup in 2019, which was their first and only title to date.
In the competition’s previous edition in 2023, held in Basra, Iraq, the Bahrainis made it to the semis but lost to eventual runners-up Oman 0-1.
