HORSERACING – BRADSELL headlined an impressive day for Bahrain-owned horses yesterday in top-class international races in Europe.
Four-year-old Bradsell claimed a sensational victory in the Bar One Racing Flying Five Stakes Group One race held at The Curragh Racecourse in Ireland.
The colt was one of two winning contenders in action for Victorious Racing, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The other was Dilawar, who triumphed in the Grand Prix Region Grand Est-12th Etape du Defi du Galop-G Campurbi Listed Race, which took place at Strasbourg Racecourse in France.
The pair of results continued the string of fantastic performances by Victorious Racing horses in high-profile meetings over the past several weeks.
In Curragh, Hollie Doyle was in the saddle with Bradsell as they claimed their big victory over five furlongs. Doyle made history by becoming the first female rider to win a Group One on the flat in Ireland.
The Archie Watson-trained horse was prominent as he ran towards the near side and led under two furlongs out. Doyle kept him well over the remainder of the race, and finally won with a length-and-a-quarter’s gap ahead of runner-up Believing, competing for owners Highclere T’Bred Racing, trainer George Boughey, and jockey Ryan Moore. Makarova finished third amongst the high-quality, 18-runner field for Brightwalton Bloodstock Ltd, Ed Walker, and Tom Marquand.
Al Mohamediya Racing’s Jasour finished 15th in the same race for trainer Clive Cox and jockey Jim Crowley.
In Strasbourg, Dilawar took the Listed Race triumph for trainer C and Y Lerner and was ridden by jockey Stephane Ladjadj.
The seven-year-old bay gelding completed the 10-and-a-half furlong event by a length-and-a-half in front of Dar Toungi, racing for Jean-Claude Seroul, J Reynier, and Valentine Seguy. Zora clinched third place from 10 runners for Ulrich Langenbach, S Smrczek, and Eddy Hardouin.
Elsewhere yesterday, Germanic claimed third place at Doncaster Racecourse in England for Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust chairman, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman, and Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Trained by William Haggas, jockey Cieren Fallon rode the three-year-old in the Betfred City Of Doncaster Handicap Group Two race, held over seven furlongs.
Germanic finished behind winner Telemark, representing Rabbah Racing, Simon and Ed Crisford, and Harry Davies; and runner-up Golden Mind, competing for Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum, Richard Fahey and Oisin Orr.
