Cherish, a woman from the US was shocked to find out that the jewellery she purchased from Johri Bazaar in Jaipur India, turned out to be fake.
Police stated that the silver ornaments with gold polish were allegedly sold for an astonishing ₹ 6 crore, despite only having a worth of ₹300 (BD1.35).
The distraught woman found out she had been tricked only after she had displayed the jewellery in an exhibition in April, upon returning back to the US.
Consequently, she booked a flight back to India, in order to confront Gaurav Soni, the shop owner who has allegedly duped her.
Gaurav dismissed the allegations, to which the woman took action and filed a police complaint in Jaipur.
Additionally, she reached out to the US embassy, which urged the Jaipur Police to investigate the incident.
Cherish stated to the police that she came into contact with the fraudster through Instagram back in 2022.
As a result, she ended up paying ₹6 crore (BD270,500) for artificial jewellery over the last two years, as stated by the officials.
Additionally, police have confirmed that a search is ongoing for Guarav along with his father, Rajendra Soni, both of whom are on the run.
The official stated that "special teams have been formed to trace the two men."
